A Brief Overview Serves as the operational dyad partner and primary point of contact for the Clinical Service Chief. Works in concert with Executive leadership, the Director Specialty Practice and hospital leadership to develop and communicate a shared vision, strategic plan and operational priorities for assigned areas. Optimizes service operations by implementing best practices and achieving established budgetary, clinical, quality, service, and operational performance goals.
Essential Functions
Core Functions
Gives input into the development of organization wide ambulatory standards and practices.
Directs, implements, and evaluates operational practices in assigned areas to support the organization’s commitment to continuous quality improvement, wise use of financial resources and ambulatory best practice.
Works in partnership with hospital executives, dyad leader, and leadership team to develop an area specific strategic plan to support the enterprise strategic plans.
Collaborates with dyad leader to develop, communicate, and achieve an annual operational plan designed to support the strategic plan, key outcome measures and the growth of the service.
Uses data to identify opportunities for improvement in key outcomes metrics that reflect service, standards of care, policies, and procedures.
Ensures compliance with quality assurance, safety practices, policies, regulatory, and legal requirements.
Budget and Financial Responsibility
Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets for area of responsibility in partnership with assigned division chiefs.
Responsible for monthly financial performance including reporting, follow up and implementation of any required changes to minimize expenses and optimize revenue.
Collaborates with CBO to ensure accurate and optimized billing and coding of services provided and reviews comparative analysis of charge activity.
Communication and Collaboration
Facilitates communication and builds positive relationships with physicians, hospital leadership, and all key stakeholders to ensure an atmosphere that supports a positive culture for all staff and physicians.
Initiates, implements and reinforces change using proven change management techniques.
Communicates goals, objectives and outcomes effectively to staff. Develops a “line of sight” between the work of the staff and the goals of the enterprise.
Service Quality, Growth and Development
Responsible for US NEWS and World Report survey for assigned specialties; including annual submission, monitoring of metrics, program development, quality improvement, and implementation of best practices to close the gap on annual survey scores.
Develops and maintain community partnerships to strengthen the support of specialty programs
Provides operational management and recommends expansion of specialty outreach and virtual care patterns to expand specialty programs.
Supports and promotes educational and research activities of the specialty division.
Measures specialty division performance, including quantitative and qualitative measures of success and acts upon results
Actively manages access to care for assigned specialties, optimizing throughput to enhance patient access
Collaborates with Foundation leadership to develop appropriate promotional materials and to identify/support fund raising opportunities, and to optimize any grant funding opportunities available to enhance the mission and vision of Children’s within the specialty division.
Personnel Management
Interviews and selects team members and oversees training on job related tasks.
Conducts employee performance management duties including completion and delivery of performance evaluations, setting goals, dissemination of information, coaching, addressing performance issues/routine correction actions, and recommending termination of employment.
Ensures staff competency and assist with staff professional development through continuous education, literature and seminars.
Collaborates with Human Resources on employee life cycle needs.
Monitors and takes appropriate action to strengthen employee engagement and retention.
Education Qualifications
Master's Degree MBA, MHA or Masters in nursing with evidence of advanced course work in business administration, equivalent years of experience may substitute for education Required
Experience Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of related work experience working in a health care environment Required and
Minimum 3 years of management experience Required and
Experience with pediatric programs Preferred and
Experience within an academic and research setting Preferred
Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated high level of communication skill sufficient to provide effective leadership for subordinate personnel, to maintain a variety of internal and external contracts, and to interact effectively with patients, families, physicians, other hospital departments and the public.
High level of initiative, self direction and accountability for action required.
Skill in promoting multidisciplinary collaboration. Ability to act as a facilitator and change agent required.
Analytical ability necessary to conduct cost/benefit analysis, in-depth budget variation analysis as well as resolves complex operational and sensitive interpersonal issues.
Performance of principle duties and responsibilities will require ability to travel.
